Columbia Pictures "Moneyball" is based on the Oakland A's 2002 season and how General Manager Billy Beane took a team with no big stars and a very low budget and created a division winner. Beane is played by Brad Pitt.
Crowds of people lined up outside the Oakland Coliseum last summer for a chance to be cast as extras in the film. Proceeds from tonight's premiere will benefit cancer research.
