Young people from an Oakland-based youth program were honored by first lady Michelle Obama at the White House Monday. Youth Radio received the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award.

Y Radio, as it's better known, works with more than 400 underserved young adults between the ages of 14 and 18. After completing six months of intensive media training, students can work as interns on a diverse range of arts and humanities programs at Youth Radio.

More than 70 percent of its graduates go on to college.
