During an interview with small town boy Ben Higgins from "The Bachelor," he said that ultimately he found Lace to be very intriguing last season.

NEW YORK (KGO) -- Today is the day romantics have been waiting for as Ben Higgins is back tonight for the new season of "The Bachelor."

The season is off to a wild start with small town boy Higgins having met 28 women who are all looking for love.

There are twins who are best friends. He gave the first impression rose to former news anchor Olivia.

And much to fans' surprise, he gave a rose to Lace who rubbed many of the women the wrong way.

Higgins talked about why he thought Lace deserved to stick around and when asked if he was surprised by anything back in the first episode, he said: "I'm surprised by how the women talked to each other. I'm surprised by their conversations, by the interactions they have in the house because I don't see that and that. And ultimately I found Lace to be very intriguing. I didn't realize, I'm learning things as I watch this on Monday night as well," he said.

Don't miss "The Bachelor" tonight at 8 p.m. on ABC!
