SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (KGO) -- A young Bay Area woman was found dead in a park. ABC7 News has uncovered the connection between the victim and the woman arrested for her murder.

A man and woman are now under arrest after the body of 21-year-old Karla Ramirez-Segoviano was found Thursday in an East Oakland Park.

Friends and family gathered at Ramirez-Segoviano's home all evening. A friend who used to work with her at a local fast food restaurant came to pay his respects. He says he also knows one of the suspects.

"I knew the girl, actually. She used to work with us at KFC. It kind of shocks me because, how can a co-worker do this to another co-worker, you know," said the victim's friend Jorge Zamora.

That former co-worker is named Laura Rodgers. Although the district attorney has not released the names of the suspects, ABC7 News has learned Laura Rodgers was booked into the Alameda County Jail on murder charges.

Ramirez-Segoviano's body was found around noon on Thursday at Arroyo Viejo Park in Oakland. Investigators say she had been badly beaten, stabbed and burned.

Her family has been distraught since she disappeared earlier this week.

Ramirez-Segoviano's sister told Univision 14 this has been awful for all of them, especially having to watch her parents in pain.

The victim was in the Alameda County Sheriff's Department Explorer Program. Deputy Pricilla Silva has known her since she started three years ago.

"I'm hanging in there, It's difficult. It's probably one of the most difficult I've had to deal with," Silva said.

Investigators say they don't believe her connection to the sheriff's department was part of a motive in her murder.
