Donald Trump faces backlash over comments about judge

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is defending himself in his latest controversy.

He has not backed down from his view that a judge in one of the lawsuits against Trump University is biased against him because the judge is Mexican-American.

Federal District Judge Gonzalo Curiel was born in Indiana.

"He's a member of a club or society very strongly pro-Mexican, which is all fine. But I say he's got bias. I want to build a wall. I'm going to build a wall," Trump said.

Trump went even further, saying that a Muslim judge might also treat him unfairly because of his proposal to ban people of that faith from entering the U.S.

But many in the Republican party are outraged by Trump's remarks.

Newt Gingrich, who's likely on Trump's short list for VP, called the comments a mistake.
