Cal Fire releases updates on Northern California wildfires

ALTA, Calif. (KGO) -- Several wildfires continue to burn across Northern California, including one in the Bay Area. Cal Fire released updates Monday as thousands of people face an uncertain future as flames threaten their homes.

Firefighters now have a handle on the Wragg Fire that's burning in Napa and Solano counties near Lake Berryessa. Cal Fire reported that the fire has burned close to 6,600 acres and is 70-percent contained. The fire started last Wednesday and as of Monday, all evacuation orders have been lifted.

To the east in Nevada County, the Lowell fire is still raging. So far, it's burned 1,700 acres and is 20-percent contained. Mandatory evacuation orders remain in effect for 1,800 homes.

"Started loading up the camper. This was always going to be our getaway. So here we are Nevada Union High School. Didn't plan on camping tonight, but it looks like we're going to be doing that. Hopefully everything's going to be good," said one California resident.

Currently, 1,400 firefighters are battling the Lowell Fire. Access to the flames is challenging because of the steep terrain, so they're fighting it from the ground and in the air.

Evacuated residents say they hope they have something to come home to. "That my home is not burned down. That's what's really important, but I do have my life. I do have my husband and I have my critters," evacuee Janice Belding said.

Four firefighters, two from Cal Fire and two from the U.S. Forest Service suffered burns Sunday while fighting the Lowell Fire. One had serious burns and is being treated at the UC Davis Burn Center.
