SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- For the second year in a row Americans will have three extra days to get your taxes filed.

Tax day falls on Monday, April 18th because Emancipation Day is being observed in Washington, D.C. on the 15th.

State tax officials are already warning about potential scams. They say you should keep an eye on your mailbox daily for important documents thieves can use to claim any refund you're expecting.

"Scammers are becoming more and more brazen - what they're doing is they're stealing personal identification, personal information and they're using it to file fraudulent tax returns in an effort to steal refunds," Jason Monteil with the franchise tax board said.

Remember - if there's a red flag with your return, the IRS will reach out to you directly.
