The Golden State Warriors begin defense of their NBA Championship title Tuesday with their season home opener. Pregame festivities include the players receiving their championship rings and the raising of the championship banner.

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- The defending NBA champions Golden State Warriors begin defense of their title Tuesday night at Oracle arena as they host the New Orleans Pelicans.

It's the season home opener, but the night kicks off with a few pre-game festivities.

First, the players will be awarded their championship rings, which were exclusively designed in Beverly Hills and flown in on a private jet.

Then, a banner for last's year championship season will be raised and placed among the team's other memorable banners that hang high above the arena floor.

Head coach Steve Kerr will not be on the bench as he is still rehabbing from back surgery, so Luke Walton is in charge.

On Monday, the team had their final practice. Afterwards, Walton talked about the ring ceremony as a possible distraction.

"It takes away from the focus being 100% on the game, because it's such a big night and it's important and it's a night that these guys are going to remember the rest of their lives. That being said, we're hopeful that we'll get our rings, we'll be happy and then we'll be able to transition our mindset to beating the Pelicans," said Walton.

The team says they want a strong start to set the tone for the rest of the season.

Tuesday's game is sold-out. Tip-off is at 7:15 p.m.
