US and Mexico flag football teams to play a game during Super Bowl week in an Olympic preview

The week of the Super Bowl next month in San Francisco will feature not one but two marquee flag football games.

It's just another way to gain even more exposure for the game ahead of flag football's Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

First, the NFL's elite take the field on Feb. 3 as part of the Pro Bowl festivities. Then, the flag football specialists will stage an exhibition match two days later, with Team USA taking on rival Mexico.

In LA two years from now, the roster could very well be a mix of NFL players - or former players - and flag football experts. USA Football, the national governing body for the sport, will select and train the men's and women's teams ahead of the Olympics.

Here's why President Trump will not be attending Super Bowl 60

In an interview with the New York Post last week, President Donald Trump said he would not be attending Super Bowl 60 in Santa Clara at Levi's Stadium.

The reason? He said he wasn't fond of the performers.

Bay Area native Green Day will be kicking off the Super Bowl, while Bad Bunny will be performing at halftime.

They both backed former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024.

That's not the only reason Trump gave for skipping the Super Bowl.

He said it was too far away and said, "I would go, if you know, it was a little bit shorter."

South Bay leaders prepare as fears loom over possible ICE presence at Super Bowl 60

South Bay leaders are assuring community members who fear ICE activity during the Super Bowl that they have their backs.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta are encouraging state and local law enforcement to investigate potential crimes involving federal agents.

It comes as leaders in the South Bay prepare for the possibility of ICE showing up at the Super Bowl, something that the Department of Homeland Security promised months ago.

Santa Clara Police Chief Cory Morgan addressed the community on Tuesday amid fears over potential immigration enforcement at the Super Bowl.

"As a matter of practice, we do not confirm, deny or speculate about the presence or activities of other agencies," he said.

Green Day to open 60th Super Bowl with anniversary ceremony celebrating generations of MVPs

The NFL is marking the 60th anniversary of the Super Bowl with a hometown opening act.

Green Day will kick off the big game with an opening ceremony Feb. 8 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, the league announced Sunday. The performance will celebrate six decades of the championship's history, with the band helping usher generations of Super Bowl MVPs onto the field.

The trio, who formed in the East Bay subregion of the San Francisco Bay Area and are made up of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool, are expected to perform a selection of their best-known anthems as part of the tribute.

"We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!" lead singer Armstrong said. "We are honored to welcome the MVPs who've shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let's have fun! Let's get loud!"
