RICHMOND, Calif. -- A man died after he was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in his car in Richmond early Saturday morning, a police lieutenant said.
Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert activated in the 700 block of 23rd Street shortly after 3 a.m., Richmond police Lt. Joey Schlemmer said.
Arriving officers found the man in the driver's seat of a car at a parking lot at the corner of 23rd Street and Burbeck Avenue, Schlemmer said.
The man was suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper torso and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Schlemmer.
The man's name has not been released pending notification of his next of kin.
The Police Department's homicide unit is investigating the incident and is asking anyone with information to call police at (510) 233-1214.
