Domestic dispute in Redwood City ends with one dead, DA investigating
One man is dead and an investigation is underway after an incident that started Tuesday with police getting reports that a man was chasing his ex-wife with a gun at her place of work.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (KGO) -- The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office is taking over the investigation into the shooting death of a man in Redwood City Tuesday afternoon.



Redwood City police received calls about a domestic dispute involving a man chasing his ex-wife with a gun around 2:20 p.m.

Police say a female victim called saying that her ex-husband was chasing her with a gun near Penobscot Street, several other witnesses called police reporting the same thing.



Redwood City police initially wrote on Twitter shortly before 3 p.m. about the shooting in the area of Saginaw and Penobscot drives.




Police tracked the suspect down and cornered him shortly before 3:30 p.m. and gunfire was exchanged.



The Redwood City Deputy Police chief says officers fired one round at the suspect, who then shot himself in the head.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The San Mateo County coroner's office is now performing an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.




Investigators say the man's ex-wife had several restraining orders out against the suspect for domestic violence and officers were familiar with the case.
