Stolen wheelchair mysteriously returned to Santa Ana girl born without legs

SANTA ANA, Calif. -- A customized wheelchair was mysteriously returned to a Santa Ana girl born without legs, two days after it was stolen from her family's Santa Ana apartment.

Her name, Milagros, means "miracle," and that's exactly what her family said happened after the 4-year-old's $1,500 chair reappeared next to garbage cans covered with a trash bag in front of their home.

Her mother, Rosa Perez, said the person who brought it back is really nice and is glad they have a good heart.

Milagros suffers from other medical conditions and her family said she relies on the chair to get to and from school.

There is no word on who returned the chair, but Santa Ana police said it was fingerprinted to obtain DNA samples from the bag wrapped around it.

If caught, the thief should expect a grand theft charge, authorities said.

Milagros' story touched so many people that donations poured in and Perez said she is grateful as the money can help pay for her daughter's medical needs. However, for those who want their donations back, Perez said she will be happy to return that money.

Meanwhile, for Milagros, getting the chair back meant regaining freedom to get around.
