CAMPBELL, Calif. (KGO) -- Two men in the South Bay are dead in two connected crime scenes in Los Gatos and Campbell.
At one point, both directions of Hamilton Avenue in Campbell, between Salmar Avenue and Creekside Way, were closed for the investigation.
It was an absolute mess for drivers, but all lanes have since reopened to traffic. For now, the sheriff's office is saying little about the investigation, but a person of interest has been detained.
Just before 11 a.m., Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies responded to a call of shots fired at a residence on Madrone Drive, near Broadway Road in Los Gatos.
That sheriff's deputies discovered one man dead, from a gunshot wound. Two other people were injured.
Earlier, neighbors reported a Toyota Prius speeding away from the scene. Deputies caught up with the vehicle on Highway 17 north at Lark, where a chase began.
The Prius got off at the Hamilton Avenue off-ramp, but crashed into a barrier. The driver tried running away, but was detained by sheriff's deputies.
The passenger in that vehicle was taken to Valley Medical Center, but was later pronounced dead. How that person was hurt in the first place, has not been determined.
"It's an on-going criminal investigation. We are still talking to all of the witnesses, and possible victims," said Santa Clara County Sheriff's Sgt. James Jensen.
The sheriff's office has yet to determine the relationship between any of these people, other than to say the two crime scenes are connected.
All lanes of Hamilton Avenue between Salmar Avenue and Creekside Way were closed throughout the afternoon, forcing drivers to find alternate routes to get through Campbell.
Anyone with information that could help investigators with this case is urged to call the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.
