OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- There were a lot of busy bees at Fire Station 18 in Oakland Thursday morning.

Firefighters and cadets rushed to unload a truckload of food that was being sorted into food donation boxes.

Each box was filled with a turkey, vegetables and other items to make a holiday meal.

The boxes were given to local churches who then distributed the food to families in need.

"To see the look on their face when they see this big 'ol turkey with the stuffing and the corn, I mean it is the best feeling in the world to ride around and just take turkeys to people's houses. And these firemen, these are the best people in the world, right here," Restore Inner City Peace's Todd Walker said.

This is the 29th year Oakland firefighters bought and donated food to the community. This year, they gave away 200 boxes.
