Stockton PD investigating fatal officer-involved shooting

STOCKTON, Calif. (KGO) -- Stockton police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred at Delano Ave. and Calariva Dr. on Sunday evening.

Police noticed a man in a white vehicle violently attacking a woman in the passenger seat at Pershing Ave. and Rosemarie Ln., according to Officer Joseph Silva.

When police attempted to pull the man over, they were led on a chase that included going the wrong way down I-5. Silva says that, eventually, officers made a PIT maneuver and got out of their cars to approach the man on foot.

The man then started revving the engine and hitting the gas, according to officers.

Silva says the officers felt threatened and fired several shots at the vehicle, striking the man several times.

He says the man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The female passenger is unharmed.
