BROOKFIELD, Ill. (KGO) -- There is a special orangutan bond at the Brookfield Zoo in Illinois.

Kecil, 10 months old, and his adopted mom Maggie are inseparable -- playing, eating and sleeping together.

But it wasn't so easy for Kecil. He was abandoned by his biological mother at Toledo Zoo and then taken to Milwaukee County Zoo, where he didn't bond well with a possible surrogate.

Kecil was 6-months-old when he was introduced to Maggie and the bond was almost immediate.

The two aren't on public display yet. They're waiting for Kecil to mature more.

While the pair remains off-exhibit, Brookfield Zoo is updating a keeper journal on the air.
