A big rig slammed through a fence in Crockett in the East Bay nearly hitting a home.
The closure will start after 9 p.m. Friday between state Highway 4 in Hercules and Cummings Skyway in Crockett and will conclude no later than 5 a.m. Monday.
Officials with the Crocket fire department say smoke could be visible in the area due to a "flaring event" at an East Bay refinery.
"Like if your toilet backed up and flushed back inside your toilet... that is what it smells like." Officials say the malfunction at the wastewater treatment plant is fixed, but the odor will linger for the next week, forcing residents to still take it in.
The local sugar company that runs the Crockett Wastewater Treatment Plant says there was an equipment failure during the last month's extreme heat. As the smell lingers, some residents are concerned for their health.
