OAKLEY, Calif. (KGO) -- A 10-year-old girl is being credited with saving her family from a house fire early Wednesday morning in Oakley.
The fire started just before 3:30 a.m. near the corner of West Cypress Road and Duarte Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find the home engulfed in flames.
The battalion chief said crews had to work around live power lines that were down on the ground.
It was unclear whether the power lines were connected to the cause of the fire, but firefighters believe the blaze started on the front porch.
The girl's mother, Neena Morgan, described how her daughter alerted the family after spotting the flames.
"The power went out in the house and when it went out, she freaked out, looked out the window to see what was going on. She sees the flames, started yelling at everybody in the house, waking all of us up to get us out of the house. She is our hero," Morgan said.
No one was injured in the fire, but three pets were killed.
A car parked next to the home also caught fire.
The Red Cross is assisting the family.
