SF family devastated after being displaced in house fire that killed cat, injured 3 firefighters
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A house fire in San Francisco's Bernal Heights neighborhood on Wednesday morning displaced a family and injured three firefighters, authorities said. A cat also died.
San Francisco fire crews responded to a fire on Anderson Street at about 6:30 a.m. It was contained at 7:23 a.m.
Giselle Basilio said she was inside the home with six other family members when the fire broke out. She described the difficult escape through smoke-filled conditions.
"I was going through the hallway. It was just so hot, the smoke was right there; I couldn't even breathe. I felt like we were going to pass out. But we made it on time, at the door," Basilio said.
Basilio said she was able to rescue her cat and fire officials say a dog made it out safely. However, the family's other cat, Draco, died in the fire.
"He's been with us for six years. We got him on Christmas," Basilio said.

She said the loss has been devastating.
"I feel this is just going to impact me a lot. This is just going to be stuck with me forever," Basilio said.
Three firefighters were injured while battling the blaze and transported to a local hospital with minor burn injuries. Neighboring homes were evacuated as crews worked at the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities are investigating whether an e-bike in the garage may have sparked the blaze.
