Firefighters respond to vegetation fire just outside of South San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Firefighters in Santa Clara County responded to a vegetation fire south of the city of San Jose on Sunday afternoon.

The fire burned about 10 acres as of CAL FIRE's initial assessment at about 3:30 p.m.

The fire originated off Almaden Road and Mountain Drive, in an unincorporated area just outside the San Jose city limits.

CAL FIRE's Santa Clara Unit was attacking the flames with air and ground resources as the fire spread with a moderate rate of speed Sunday afternoon.

The fire was dubbed the McKean Fire.

The public and drivers were asked to avoid the area while equipment was being staged.
