Ryan Murphy's new drama series 'The Shards' holds premiere in NYC

MANHATTAN -- Monday night was the New York red carpet premiere of FX's new series "The Shards."

The new drama series is the latest show produced by Ryan Murphy.

The series is based on a bestselling novel set in the 1980s in Los Angeles.

It follows a group of privileged high school seniors as they navigate life and everything that comes along with adolescence.

Ryan Murphy talked to Joelle Garguilo about finding the perfect cast for this series.

"I think we auditioned 500 people. They all auditioned countless times for parts they read together; I sort of built the cast one by one, it took many months but they were ones - for the most part, when they walked into the room, and read those parts, I was like well, there you go," Murphy said.

The Shards premieres on August 5th on FX and Hulu.
