Gas tanker semi-truck fire forces closure of part of Highway 99 in Selma

SELMA, Calif. -- One lane has reopened on Highway 99 in Selma following an early-morning crash Saturday involving a semi-truck.

The California Highway Patrol says there was a minor-injury crash on the southbound lanes at Second Street involving a fuel tanker semi and a box truck.

Officials say the box truck was pulled over with the driver calling for assistance when it was hit. Officers haven't said if the driver had hazard lights on.

The fuel tanker had 8,600 gallons of fuel and became fully engulfed in flames.

A third car was hit by debris from the crash. The driver was not hurt.

Smoke could be seen for miles because of the impact.

Some drivers turned around into oncoming traffic lanes in an effort to avoid the traffic jam.

Both drivers involved are expected to be okay.

Other lane closures are expected to last into Saturday night.
