UC Santa Cruz student ID'd as victim in fatal cliff crash
A woman who died after a car went over a cliff and into the ocean last week was identified Monday by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- A woman who died after a car went over a cliff and into the ocean last week was identified Monday by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office.

Alli Singh, 19, died after a vehicle she was driving went off the road and over a cliff about 12:50 a.m. Thursday on West Cliff Drive near Steamer Lane.

At the scene, fire crews and Santa Cruz police found one victim that had escaped from the vehicle and suffered minor injuries. However, Singh was still in the car, authorities said.

Four rescue swimmers were able to reach Singh in the submerged vehicle. She was transported to a nearby medical facility and died there.

Police used a drone for the rescue search, and the swimmers confirmed there were no additional victims in the car.

Authorities said Singh was from Selma in Fresno County and was currently living in Santa Cruz. The University of California, Santa Cruz also confirmed that Singh was a student studying psychology on campus.

Authorities said the case remains under investigation.
