RICHMOND, Calif. (KGO) -- A background check on an East Bay teacher now under arrest for child molestation was not done because he had previously worked for the employer.

That's the explanation given by the West Contra Costa County School board president in the matter of Ron Guinto.

Guinto was arrested earlier this month at Mira Vista Elementary School in Richmond. He was hired last December -- just one month after he was fired by another school following allegations of child molestation.

The board president says since Guinto had previously worked for the district, another background check was thought unnecessary.

The board is scheduled to review its policy at a meeting Wednesday night.
