Proposal to require full paid parental leave in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Here's some news expectant parents will love: the city of San Francisco may soon pay its workers to spend time with their new bundle of joy.

City Supervisor Scott Weiner is proposing an ordinance to require employers with at least 20 workers to pay parents their full salary during leave. Currently, California pays 55% of a person's salary for six weeks. Weiner will formally introduce the proposal before the board of supervisors on January 26.

If it passes, San Francisco would become the first city in the country to require full paid parental leave for employees.
