Police, fire union leaders say San Jose benefits deal falling apart

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- In the ongoing battle between police, fire unions and the city of San Jose, new developments emerged Tuesday.

Union leaders say the recent deal with the city over benefits is falling apart, but the city says that is not quite true.

A tentative agreement was reached in July over Measure B, which requires city workers to contribute more toward retirement pensions.

According to a police union representative, the city attorney tried to back out of the deal this week. City officials say they're optimistic the deal will stick.

A special closed city council session on the issue is expected to take place later this week.
