SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Thousands of South Bay kids will get toys in time for Christmas as Sacred Heart Community Service hosted its first toy giveaway on Tuesday.

Officials said toys will go to more than 6,000 children in need this holiday season. "These are low-income families that are having a really hard time right now during the housing crisis. I think every parent struggles during the holidays, but when you are barely making your monthly budget stretch, it's even harder during the holidays when you want to give your kids a nice gift, but you may not have the resources to do so," Sacred Heart Community Service spokesperson Morgan Wordes said.
Tuesday's toy giveaway comes one day after Sacred Heart Community Service provided holiday food boxes to 3,200 families in need.
