SANTA ROSA, Calif. (KGO) -- An 8-year-old foodie is proudly representing the Bay Area at the White House on Thursday.

Cannon Meiers is one of 56 young chefs joining the first lady for lunch.

Cannon is the California winner of the annual Healthy Lunchtime Challenge.

Earlier this week, ABC7 News caught up with Cannon in the kitchen of his Santa Rosa home.

His parents say eating healthy has been a way of life ever since Cannon was born with a rare genetic disorder.

"With that, he had a really rare allergy. He started eating really healthy at a young age and it just stuck with him. Now cooking healthy has just been amazing," his dad, Aivars, said.

"I could not be any prouder. This is just the best moment," his mom, Amy, said.

Cannon says he's 1,000 times excited to have the first lady taste his winning recipe.
