The San Francisco 49ers have informed starting guard Mike Person that he is being released, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
In a related move, the 49ers have agreed to a one-year contract with former New York Jets guard Tom Compton, a source told ESPN's Nick Wagoner.
Person, 31, started 14 games in the 2019 regular season and all three 49ers playoff games. He was with the 49ers for two seasons overall and started all 16 games for them in 2018.
Compton, 30, played in 14 games (5 starts) for the Jets in 2019. He is the first outside free agent to agree to a deal with San Francisco since the start of the league year.
He has ties to 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan, having spent time with him in Washington and Atlanta. Compton also played in Chicago and Minnesota before spending last season with the Jets.
