Martinez man arrested in fatal yard stabbing after recent jail release; video shows moment of crime

A 36-year-old Martinez man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 68-year-old man was fatally stabbed in his front yard, authorities said. Authorities said he had been released from jail on his own recognizance one day before the killing while awaiting trial in a separate burglary case.

At the time of his arrest, prosecutors said the suspect told investigators, "He indicated that he had had homicidal fantasies for awhile and that he had previously disclosed these fantasies but he 'kept getting let out' of custody."

A 73-year-old woman was stabbed to death at the Capitola Mall on Monday in what police are describing as a random attack. Jail records show that the 19-year-old suspect is being held without bail on suspicion of murder and for allegedly committing a felony while out on bail.
