SFMOMA delivers art on demand with new texting service

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A new service from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is lighting up people's phones.

The service is simple. People use their smartphone to send a text to the museum with the words "send me." That can be followed by anything. It can be a thing, a color, or even a feeling.

The museum texts back art that matches your request.

In the past three days, SFMOMA has gotten 1 million requests. "Mostly it is really beautiful. People are asking for love and happiness, sunshine, landscape, the sea," SFMOMA Head of Digital Keir Winesmith said. "But sometimes it is quiet personal. We have seen people ask for us to send me photos of my daughter or send me home."

The service even works with emojis, but you can't request by artists' names.

Some of the artwork hasn't been on display for decades.

To participate, text 57251. Include the words "send me" and then your request.
