Around-the-world scavenger hunt ends in marriage proposal
It may not have been a conventional graduation gift, but after Amy Linville completed her master's degree, her boyfriend sent her on a scavenger hunt that spanned the globe and ended with a very special surprise.
Linville's adventure began in their hometown of Lakewood, Colorado when her boyfriend Brett Arnold handed her a one-way ticket to Tokyo and a map. Hours later, she was in Japan.
"Everything was in Japanese and all I had was a map to a friend's apartment that lives there," Linville told ABC News. "The clue at the apartment said that another friend would fly in to deliver my next clue."
From Tokyo, she was on to Barcelona. A clue led her to a point overlooking the ocean, but from there, she didn't know what to do next. Linville began hiking down, only to run into Arnold making his way up the path.
What happened next? Arnold pulled out a ring and asked her to continue their adventure together and marry him.
Linville told ABC News that she's still in shock.
"It's hard to tell the story to people," she said. "The girl-reaction is, 'Shut up, no way!' and the guy-reaction is, 'Be quiet before my girlfriend hears you!'"
The couple plans to wed this fall.
