Family seeks answers after woman killed in brazen Vallejo shooting

VALLEJO, Calif. (KGO) -- A family is seeking answers after a loved one was shot and killed in a brazen afternoon attack. Gina Estevez was killed by gunfire in Vallejo on Tuesday.

Police are remaining tight-lipped about the case. They are still trying to figure out if she was targeted or she was the unintended victim. That's what her family wants to know, too.

The 25-year-old's grieving family tells ABC7 News they are frustrated with the lack of information coming from Vallejo police, while remaining hopeful investigators will catch those who killed the Daly City woman.

"She didn't deserve this, everyone loved her. We just want justice for Gina. Anything you know. Please contact the Vallejo Police Department," said one of the victim's cousins who wished to remain anonymous.

Estevez was found in the driver's seat of her tan Mercedes with multiple gunshot wounds. She and her boyfriend had driven several blocks from a house where it appears the shooting occurred. The boyfriend was not seriously hurt.

Witnesses say they heard gunshots Tuesday afternoon. And soon after, a police SWAT team moved into a house on Broadway where they used flash grenades and took two men into custody.

Police would not say if they were suspects in Estevez's murder.

Neighbors told ABC7 News that the house is known for its frequent drug activity.

"People get killed all the time in Vallejo, so we figured it was another senseless murder, which is terrible," said Vallejo resident Kevin Bryan.

At this point, police don't know if Estevez or her boyfriend were at the house when shot, specifically targeted, or if the shooting was random.

The victim's cousin pleads, "If you know anything, please, anything, the littlest bit of information, would help us. We just want to be at rest and we just want to be at ease."

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to contact their detectives.
