OAKLAND, Calif. -- Four people, including two police officers, were injured Wednesday evening after police interrupted an armed carjacking in West Oakland.
Events unfolded when undercover officers spotted the carjacking underway by a caravan of suspect vehicles, about 5 p.m. in the area of 32nd Street and West Street, according to a release from police.

Officers briefly pursued them but stopped when an Oakland police helicopter took over the chase. As police were responding to the scene, one of the suspect cars collided with a fully-marked Oakland police patrol vehicle.
Two officers, one of the suspects and the person who was carjacked were hospitalized for injuries that were not life-threatening. Police did not say whether all the injuries were due to the collision.
Multiple suspects were taken into custody, police said, but an exact number was not provided. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
