SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A fire hydrant caused water damage to apartments after it was hit by a car in San Francisco on Saturday.

Cellphone video captured water shooting into the air at Filbert and Franklin streets.

The hydrant was on for 10 minutes, which was enough time to soak a 3-story building.

The carpet in the hallways was drenched and water continues to drip down from the roof Saturday evening.

Crews brought in equipment to dry out the place, which they say will take at least a few days.

The owner of the building says a neighbor accidentally backed into the hydrant.

One of the tenants just moved in and had plans for a house warming party. "We get a photo of another friend across the street of a fire hydrant that exploded she said 'I literally don't know if my living room is flooded right now or not, may have to cancel the party, but sounds like they came and drained the roof and they're doing a good job,'" Carolina Sheridan said.

A few apartments got water inside, but it's mostly in the common areas.

Officials say none of the tenants were forced out of their homes.
