ALAMEDA COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- The Alameda County Sheriff's Office is sharing a story about how one of their own helped out a panhandler start to turn his life around.
Last month, Alameda County Deputy Jacob Swalwell tried to give Michael Myers a citation for panhandling in Hayward. Michael said he didn't have an ID to show him. So Swalwell took him to the DMV.
After three trips there and finally getting an official birth certificate, Michael is now the proud new owner of a California Senior Citizen ID. The Sheriff's Office says the next step is to help him get some benefits and a part-time job.
