Crews battle fire near Interstate 880 in Alameda

ALAMEDA, Calif. (KGO) -- Crews are battling a fire on Tidewater Avenue in an industrial area just west of Interstate 880 in Alameda.

This appears to have started as a car fire. A man tried to put the fire out with a garden hose, but it spread to a nearby building. Crews from the Oakland Fire Department arrived on scene to extinguish the fire.

There is a lot of material on the ground fueling the fire and sending black smoke into the air.
