Bride with stage 4 colon cancer gets dream wedding
Alma Fragoso, a 31-year-old cervical cancer survivor who is now fighting stage 4 colon cancer, got the wedding of her dreams Saturday.

POMONA, Calif. -- A special wedding was held for Alma Fragoso Saturday. It's been a life battling journey, the 31-year-old is a cervical cancer survivor and is now fighting stage 4 colon cancer.

"I thought by going through my journey, I was never going to be able to get to this point... or for him to be my husband," Alma said.

For Fragoso and Juan Franco, their dream wedding is a dream come true.

"It feels awesome knowing that I have a partner forever, until God says, till death do us part, and for me, that's what it means," Franco said.

The ceremony, from the dress to the flowers to the cake, was all possible thanks to the kindness of strangers at the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

The pair wed at Fairplex in Pomona Saturday as hundreds of fellow cancer patients and survivors cheered them on.

Fragoso hopes her story will encourage everyone to get screened for colon cancer.

"I have a 2-year-old, and thinking about him being small and my daughters and his daughters, I think about it, and, you know what, I wanna live, I wanna see them get married, I want to see them in college, I want to see all that," Fragoso said.

Doctors have stopped Fragoso's treatment because her cancer is so advanced, but the newlyweds refuse to give up, vowing to fight together as husband and wife.

"I'm looking at it like a long term, and that's just the way we've been dealing with this. She makes me strong and I make her strong," Franco said.

"No matter what the doctors tell me, I'm still going to fight, fight, fight until the end," Fragoso said.

The newlyweds say they cling to their belief that love can conquer all, and say they are eternally grateful to Relay for Life. The event at the Fairplex wraps up Sunday morning at the Pomona Fairgrounds, after raising thousands of dollars in the fight against cancer.
