Sheriff's officials identified him as 20-year-old Basel Jilani of Lafayette. Detectives declined to say why they were there or what they were looking for.

SKY7 was over the home on Arbor View Lane Wednesday hours after the shooting. Police could be seen entering the upscale home. "He was a renter as far as I know," said neighbor Shannon Murphy.

He says the house is about a half mile from the shooting scene.

"My first reaction was surprise.. you don't expect something like that, worried for my family and my kids," Murphy said.

Police aren't saying if Jilani, who was driving a black Mercedes, might have been targeted by a gunman in a passing car, in the middle of the day.

"If it was road rage, I'm hoping it was two random cars just coming through, I'm hoping it wasn't anything involving the neighborhood," said Lafayette neighbor David Martinez.

Neighbors say homicide detectives have contacted them, asking about the home and the victim.

Sheriff's officials have no information on a motive or possible suspects at this time. Their investigation continues.
