Just yesterday we told you a Wisconsin company donated $25,000 to the fire station for new fire rescue equipment and another thousand for repairs. Since that announcement, dozens of area companies have stepped up and donated anything they could to give the fire station an extreme makeover.
Instead of sirens, you'll hear the sound of hammers inside Fire Station 23. "It's great to be recognized. We've got over 100 firefighters on duty everyday. They go out and risk their lives to help someone else," says Lt. Craig Beck.
Now volunteers are coming together to help them. "They are in desperate need of new recliners, appliances, refrigerators," says project manager Carrie Livingston. Livingston is heading the fire station's extreme makeover. Today new carpet, all donated by Carpets by Otto, is going down in the lounge and dorm. "They are carpeting the areas where they live and work. So when they get up, they don't have to get on concrete anymore. They get on nice warm floors," says Carpets by Otto owner Otto Welk.
By the time Aaron Frisch returns to work, the station will have freshly painted walls. Two artists are even painting murals in the garage. Other businesses are donating new, more efficient air conditioners, new lights, and blinds.
Lieutenant Beck says these donations aren't only going to help this station. "It's going to save the city a lot of money in the long run. Also, they won't have to purchase equipment on their own." Just another reason why these volunteers are giving their time, their services, and their energy to give Fire Station 23 a makeover that's truly extreme.
