The students oppose plans by the East Side Union High School District to lay off teachers and counselors.
They also plan marched to district headquarters Friday afternoon.
Student leaders told ABC7 that administrators threatened them with suspension and not being allowed to graduate on stage if they went ahead with Friday's walkout, but school officials just said they do not plan to take any action against the students.
