Groundbreaking to rebuild Toledo church destroyed by fire

Toledo First Alliance Church has worshiped at its Monroe location since 1922. On June 25, 2009, an early morning fire destroyed the historic sanctuary. The tragedy left the church determined to re-build for their faith. "I think one of the hardest things is the adjustment to the fact that it is no longer here," said Keith Sholl, lead pastor at First Alliance.

"When something like that happens, you can't help but ask why?...And sometimes it's easier said than done but you have to trust that it's in God's plan," said church member Mike Ackerman.

The planned $3.5 million worship center will accommodate over 450 people. On Sunday, the congregation gathered for the groundbreaking ceremony that they've waited over a year to see. "It's a new beginning. It's exciting. I am excited to see what happens," said church member Callie Gover.
