The mosquito millage has never been turned down by voters. However, there is some opposition this time around.
In Grand Blanc Township, a mosquito millage has been in place for nearly 20 years. On Aug. 3, voters will decide the fate of future funding.
"We're trying to eliminate the mosquitoes before they are ever hatched as opposed to deal with them after they're hatched, but there is some spraying as well," said Cathy Lane.
The millage would cost taxpayers about 24 cents for every $1,000 of taxable value on their home for the next four years.
"By doing that we hope to eliminate the possibility of West Nile virus and also to reduce any possibility of people that would have a negative impact from the spraying," Lane said.
The township manager says the millage has met some opposition.
"Primarily they don't like the spraying activity and Rose pest control will identify properties, so if you don't want your property they will mark that area and not go in that area," said Richard Dunnil.
At least one resident hopes voters approve the millage.
Rose Pest Solutions is the company responsible for mosquito control in the township.
