The mayor of Archbold received a letter from Therma-Tru's corporate headquarters on Thursday with the bad news for his village. It reads: "After a comprehensive review of Therma-Tru Corporation's business in Archbold, Ohio, which is part of the U.S. housing industry, and the need to consolidate operations, it is with deep regret that we announce our intent to close the facility there."
Therma-Tru makes fiberglass and steel exterior home doors. The company has manufacturing plants in Butler, Indiana, and Matamoros, Mexico. The company's corporate headquarters is located in Maumee.
The Archbold facility handles customer service, fabrication, and distribution. Therma-Tru says the facility will close for good at the end of October. Most of the layoffs will happen in April.
Therma-Tru did not return our calls for comment. However, as stated in the letter to the mayor, the company intends to help the 62 workers who will soon be out of a job. The company is offering in-house job search assistance on top of what is offered by the state.
