Bill Wersell says, "The facility on Illinois Avenue is now locally owned, locally operated with a professional staff of management."
The Director of Small Business Development of Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce calls Friday a new beginning for the Maumee Assembly and Stamping Plant. He says the two local investors who bought the facility from ford with the help of huntington bank wish not to be named.
The agreement, which has been 2 years in the making, positions the plant on Illinois Avenue to take on additional automotive supplier work and hire up to 200 new employees within the next 12 to 18 months.
Wersell says, "We're starting out small and we'll slowly grow, but the potential for good paying jobs is once again available in Maumee."
The plant now employs 40 people operating at about 10 percent capacity. They make parts for the auto industry and appliance industry. Owners plan to begin hiring in the early fall once new business contracts with vendors are all lined up.
