Some Chevrolet Sonic owners will be receiving recall notices after General Motors noticed some of the cars might be missing front brake pads.

The recall covers more than 4,800 2012 Chevy Sonic vehicles in the United States and Canada.

GM says it knows of no crashes or injuries caused by the problem. Dealerships will install any missing parts free of charge.

GM first discovered the problem when a rental car came in for routine warranty service.

The Sonic hit the market several years ago.
