The attack was reported shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 50000 block of Adobe Place.
Anthony Medina, 54, was watching television with his elderly mother when his father passed through the room.
Medina, who was intoxicated, allegedly threatened to kill his father, and his father stopped and told him to stop making threats to him and the rest of the family, according to the sheriff's office.
Medina then stood up and punched his father in the face twice, sheriff's officials said.
His father left the house and was met by Medina's sister, who called 911 because her father's face was covered in blood and she could hear her brother yelling inside the house, according to the sheriff's office.
The sister's husband stood between Medina and his father, and in the middle of the chaos, Medina's mother had a panic attack, compounding an existing medical condition, sheriff's officials said.
Medina was arrested and the family is seeking prosecution, saying that Medina constantly threatens to harm or kill them. At the time of the arrest, he was on probation out of Los Angeles County, sheriff's officials said.
