'Scandal' star could make Emmy Award history

Kerry Washington is nominated for an Emmy for her role as Washington DC fixer Olivia Pope.

It's the first time an African American has been nominated for the lead actress in a drama series Emmy in 18 years.

If Washington wins, it would be the first time a black female has won the award.

The Emmy Awards take place this Sunday.

And a reminder, you can catch the "Scandal" season three premiere Thursday, October 3 at 10 p.m. right here on ABC7. That's followed by the ABC7 News at 11 p.m.
