WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KGO) -- During the Thursday evening commute BART had to stop all service to and from Lafayette to Concord due to a power line that fell onto the track in Walnut Creek. After PG E crews removed the power line BART was able to return service around 8:45 p.m.
The tracks had to be closed on the Pittsburg/Bay Point Line in the Pittsburg/Bay Point and SFO directions.
Commuters were encouraged to find other forms of transportation because of the long delay.
PG&E is on scene removing the power line, and the Contra Costa Fire Protection District has responded to put out a small grass fire that started next to the tracks, according to BART spokeswoman Denise Gonzalez.
Power has been shut off between Lafayette and Concord stations, and will be restored once the tracks are cleared and safe, Gonzalez said.
