Rocket-propelled bicycle shatters world speed records

An idea seemingly out of a Coyote and Roadrunner cartoon becomes reality! A daredevil riding a bicycle fitted with a rocket finishes the quarter mile dash in less than seven seconds, setting a world record. In just two days, the video has amassed over 3.5 million views. Take a look below.

Frenchman Franois Gissy soared the rocket-bike down the famous Circuit Paul Ricard track at an astounding 207 MPH (333 KM/H), reaching the speed in 4.8 seconds after traveling about 820 feet. While Gissy lies on the bike in an almost horizontal position, you can see Gissy's legs flying behind him as he begins to lose control against the intense wind.

Racing alongside a Ferrari F430, which can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4 seconds, the rocket-bicycle left the muscle car in the dust.

The rocket-bicycle was designed by Arnold Neracher of Exotic Thermo Engineering, a friend of Gissy, and probably an even better friend after gifting Gissy the ride of a lifetime.

So far, there's no clear evidence suggesting that Exotic Thermo Engineering wants to make bicycle-rockets available for retail, though we're curious to see the paper boy deliver newspapers on one.
